There's something sacred...
About the first hour after sunrise in the rainforest. The sky turns soft pink, mist lifts from the quiet air below and the birds begin their morning rituals. This is my absolute favorite time for Costa Rica wildlife photography. When the light is gentle and the wild feels brand new.
I head out with coffee in hand and camera ready, walking the length of the deck or heading down to where jungle meets the sea. In that golden morning hour, snowy egrets glide low over the water, great kiskadees call from high perches and the occasional scarlet macaw pair flies overhead like living fire.
The soft side lighting makes white feathers glow and colorful plumage pop without harsh shadows. I move slowly, stay low and let the birds decide when they’re comfortable. The best shots almost always come when I’m not forcing an idea. Just showing up with gratitude and an open heart.
These early mornings have become one of my favorite daily rituals. They remind me that the wild is generous to those who meet it with patience and wonder.
