PERCHED HIGH WITH A BRIGHT YELLOW...

Belly blazing like captured sunlight, this Great Kiskadee calls out its name without apology, "kis-ka-dee!"

Fearless and loud in a world full of camouflage, it reminds us that sometimes the brightest presence is the one that announces itself clearly and refuses to dim. These flycatchers are everyday residents on the ocean side, yet they never fail to steal the show.

It usually starts just after dawn... One bold call cutting through the softer hum of hummingbirds and distant waves. Their voice carries far. Territorial yet playful, a reminder that boundaries can be declared with joy.

No hiding in shadows. They choose the highest bare branches, bright yellow standing out against pale sky, black and white masked face turned toward the day.

They're opportunists with attitude, always unapologetic about taking what the day offers. On days when doubt creeps in, hearing that clear "kis-ka-dee" feels like permission to speak up and claim space.

What bold voice in nature always makes you smile?
